What is the company guidelines for Under Keel Clearance (UKC) for this vessel? |
The company policy regarding the minimum UKC:
- 20% of the Deepest Navigational Draught in Ocean Passages/Navigation, if localized shallow spots can’t be avoided
- 15% of the Deepest Navigational Draught in Coastal Waters
- 10% of the Deepest Navigational Draught in shallow water, in narrow channels/canals (confined waters) and rivers, at anchor, at stops within port limits and while alongside the berth or at SBM/CBM mooring
It is at Master’s discretion to reduce the UKC below the %10 of the Deepest Navigational Draught (except for SBM/CBM mooring) as per the requirement of operational considerations, but in any case shall never be less than 1.5% of the vessel’s extreme breadth in ballast and in loaded condition.
This initiative/discretion (reducing the limits towards the 1.5% of the vessel’s extreme breadth) can only be used within port limits when the vessel is in shallow water, passing through the narrow channels/canals (confined waters) and rivers, at anchor, at stops and at berths (except the SBM/CBM Terminals where the Master shall NOT ever reduce the UKC below the “10% of the Deepest Navigational Draught”). |
