Are you enthusiastic about performing vessel intelligence screening and mapping sanctions risk? Are you curious, investigative and solution oriented? Then you may be exactly what we are looking for.

NORDEN is looking for a Behavioral Risk Analyst to join the Risk Management team. The team consists of 13 passionate people situated in Copenhagen, with a wide range of backgrounds covering mathematics, statistics, physics, finance, compliance and shipping. Our overall responsibility is to identify, measure and monitor market risk, credit risk, sanctions risk and liquidity risk, and we also manage the overall bunker market risk.

In the complex world of international shipping, vessel screening plays an indispensable role in mitigating both direct and indirect sanction risks. This responsibility lies under the sanction risk team, part of Risk Management, using a combination of insight into sanctions regimes, and dedicated sanctions screening tool and other leading maritime intelligence tools to ensure sanctions compliance.

“NORDEN has no tolerance for sanctions risk, thus at times it can be like balancing on a knife’s edge reviewing different sanctions regimes in order to identify areas of opportunities where NORDEN will not be in breach of sanctions, but still be able to offer business to our customers and thus creating additional value for the organization”, says Flemming Dahl Jensen, Sanctions Compliance and Security Officer.

Primary responsibilities:

As a behavioral risk Analyst, the key focus of your role will be to conduct behavioral risk screening of vessels, including identifying and screening vessel owners and affiliates against sanctions screening and maritime intelligence tools to mitigate sanctions, reputational and operational risks.

  • Monitor and investigate vessel’s historical and real-time pattern of dark activity, and be notified of high-risk points of call or suspicious behavior indicating potentially illicit activity
  • Understand how sanctions impact vessel fleets, with a full picture of shipping organizations
  • Provide guidance to trading floors in ensuring day to day compliance with sanctions
  • Perform throughout investigations to assess possible breaches of sanctions
  • Liaise with Business Units, P&I Clubs, Industry Organizations and authorities

Your qualifications:

We are looking for a new colleague who has a disciplined and structured approach. You have high level of personal integrity and always search for the best solution with respect to all known aspect of the case. Others will describe you as having a curious personality and an investigative mindset, and for this role cross-team cooperation and interaction will be required. You have a good understanding of the situation and sense of urgency. Further, you will undergo a substantial on-the-job training, so suitable candidate would not necessarily need any prior professional experience in the field of maritime compliance, but if you possess same will be deemed an added advantage.
